MORAVIA DE LA O – Regina – 2019

I made a playlist on the evening of March 9th and spent the next couple of hours listening and singing along to some of my favorite songs about revolution and social justice from Latin America. Dave had heard some of the songs before, but not a lot so it was meaningful to share a bit about the songs and also about my memories of growing up listening to them in Mexico. I also added some songs that weren’t explicitly political, but that reminded me about my time living in Latin America. Moving to Canada, I’ve felt disconnected with that part of myself and my past, so reconnecting to those past experiences through music has been important. Here’s the list of songs:
-Ojalá, Silvio Rodríguez
-El derecho de vivir en paz-Victor Jara
-Volver a los diecisiete-Violeta Parra
-Desapariciones-Maná
-Desaparecido-Manu Chao
-Quién Fuera-Silvio Rodríguez
-Gracias a la Vida-Violeta Parra
-La Perla-Calle 13, Rubén Blades, La Chilinga
-Latinoamérica–Calle 13, Totó la Momposina, Susana Baca, Maria Rita
-Manuel Santillán, El León–Los Fabulosos Cadillacs
-Guantanamera-Celia Cruz
-Todo Cambia-Mercedes Sosa
-Manifiesto–Victor Jara
-Canción Protesta–Aterciopelados
-Los Dinosaurios–Charly García
